To help better familiarize yourself with gradebook, it's important to learn how each scoring option works. This will help give you a better understanding of the different scoring methods and how they will impact grades for your students.
Each point equally is the first, and easiest to understand, grading option. This is simply Total Points Scored / Total Points Possible. If you select this grading option as the overall grading method, each category will be graded in the same way.
The second, more complex, method of grading is Weighted. You can use the weighted grading method for the Overall Scoring Method, but you can also use it for within each category as well.
If you choose to weight your categories using the Overall Scoring Method, you will want to remember the following:
All category weights added together must equal, or be marginally close, to 100.
The concept of adding to 100 also applies to categories that are specifically weighted.
WARNING: By not having the total weights for all categories, or within a category, equal (or near) 100, you will find students grades to differ from what they should be. For the best results for your students, ensure your weights have been properly adjusted.
